Graduates of the Critical Care Medicine and Intensive Care Specialization program at Universidad de Las Américas are highly qualified professionals prepared to deliver specialized medical care to patients presenting complex clinical conditions that require continuous and intensive care across various medical specialties and subspecialties. Graduates provide comprehensive care that addresses the clinical needs of critically ill patients while maintaining direct communication with their families or companions, clearly explaining the procedures and clinical decisions involved. Their practice is grounded in a solution-oriented and practical approach, supported by theoretical and scientific foundations and guided by current evidence-based medicine while upholding the highest standards of ethical, humanistic, and professional quality.
Furthermore, graduates are equipped to perform diagnostic assessments in critically ill patients, applying scientific knowledge in accordance with evidence-based clinical practice. Graduates are capable of selecting and administering clinical, pharmacological, therapeutic, and/or invasive treatments, based on clinical expertise, cost-benefit analysis, and up-to-date scientific evidence. Likewise, graduates function as essential members of multidisciplinary healthcare teams dedicated to managing critically ill patients. Graduates also contribute to the medical-scientific community through active participation in research and the formulation of hypotheses on relevant topics within the fields of critical care medicine and intensive care. Similarly, graduates apply ethical principles and communicate assertively in their interactions with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. Graduates are proficient in the use of technical and administrative tools required for the effective management of an intensive care unit.
Ultimately, graduates of the program are expected to demonstrate sound clinical judgment and a strong sense of professional responsibility in managing public or private critical care units, making timely, appropriate, and evidence-based decisions regarding therapeutic interventions and treatment protocols.

All programs utilize the Brightspace platform to collect and assess student work and to compile data and evidence of student achievement. The resulting outcomes and their analysis, which focus on identifying areas for improvement, are presented in the program’s assessment report. In the graphic below, the most recent assessment period for each Program Learning Outcome (PLO) is indicated, along with the percentage representing the level of achievement of the expected performance standard for that PLO, based on the rubric used to evaluate student work.
